Family history - a determinant of homosexuality. Dec. 2006 According to a study published recently in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, "Childhood family experiences are important determinants of heterosexual and homosexual marriage decisions in adulthood." Looking at more than 2 million native-born Danes, a nation where same-sex marriages are legal and socially acceptable, study authors discovered that: Men were more likely to marry men if parents were divorced, if the father was absent or unknown, or if the father had died during childhood or adolescence. Women were more likely to marry women if their time with their mother was significantly reduced by short-term maternal marriage or by maternal death while child was adolescent, if the father was unknown, or if raised by their father in the absence of mother. The longer the time a child had to live with both parents together, the less the likelihood of same sex marriage. Those children living in large cities had a higher incidence of same-sex marriage than country kids. Boys born to older women were more likely to marry same-sex partners. The findings of this careful, peer-reviewed study seem to confirm what many observers have suspected for a long time. By all Biblical parameters, homosexual practice is sin, but as this study demonstrates so clearly, it is essentially the product of a broken, dysfunctional society - not usually a choice made by healthy, happy people. While this observation does not lessen the destructive effects of homosexuality, it ought to make loving people more sympathetic and understanding of those so predisposed. On the other hand, while it is understandable that homosexually predisposed people may desire greater social acceptance, any and all efforts to entice others into the homosexual "fold" must be looked upon with distain - if we care about our children and the future of society. Lest homosexuals think to excuse their sin on the basis of their upbringing, it would be well to remind them that we are all predisposed to sin - all types of sin - by our mere presence in a world sick with 6 thousand years of sin under its belt. Contra-wise, Jesus came, lived, died, and was resurrected, to save us FROM our sin - in this life, and for eternity to come. All who will turn to Him in sincere penitence and full surrender may find healing from their sin - whatever that sin may be. (Click here to read more) Premarital sex describes moral values. Dec. 2006 According to Lawrence Finer's study entitled, "Premarital sex is normal behavior for the vast majority of Americans, and has been for decades," 95% of Americans have been experiencing premarital sex. The report that appeared in a recent issue of Public Health Reports indicates this behavior goes back at least as far as the 50's, Finer is research director for the Guttmacher Institute, a private group that studies sexual and reproductive issues affecting American society, and is opposed to government funding for abstinence-only education for America's youth. While critics may question the details of Finer's stats and even his position on abstinence-only education, no one can look at the sexual practices of Americans as displayed in the media and by our private lives and question the significance of his report. Though the majority of Americans still want to be known as a Christian nation, and though there are those among us who fight arduously for the Ten Commandments, the principles upon which they maintain our nation was founded, only a very small percentage of us love and respect those principles sufficiently to obey them. Something seems drastically wrong between our professions and our practices. Oh yes, we focus upon the sins of homosexuality and abortion and embryonic stem-cell research, but almost completely ignore the real intent of the Law that admonishes us to be faithful to one partner of the opposite sex for a life-time, to honor our parents, to love our neighbors, and to honor our God by remembering the Sabbath day given to us in Eden - to reference just a few of the Commandments. And having done this, blame God for all of the troubles we face as individuals and as a society. No! Premarital sex may be no greater sin than many of the other things we think and do, but it certainly is an accurate measure of our moral values, and the nature of our faith. All of which challenges us to ask, "How must a God of self-sacrificing love (as demonstrated at the cross) feel when He sees what we are doing to ourselves?" Is it any wonder that Jeremiah (a Bible prophet) described Him as weeping uncontrollably over the sins of His people? "Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands," Isaiah 49:15,16. (Click here to read more about God's law) U. N. Sanctions nothing more that a "scrap of paper." Dec. 31, 2006 In reacting to the U.N. Security Council resolution placing sanctions upon Iran, President Mahmoud Amahjinedad said, "The resolution is just a scrap of paper. Whether the West likes it or not, Iran is a nuclear country, and it is in their interests to live alongside Iran." Furthermore, Iran will install 3,000 new centrifuges by next March at which time the Islamic republic will "celebrate its nuclearization." Most analysts acknowledge that the U.N. Sanctions will have little impact on Iran, especially as watered down by demands of Russia and China. While it will likely be a few years before Iran will have a significant arsenal of nuclear bombs and missiles to carry them, her determination is already changing the power dynamic of the Middle East. Dec. 18, 2006 As of next spring, patients in Britain will have the right to die if in their living wills or advanced directives they spell out that desire. Until now, doctors and nurses often feel conscience driven to keep people alive so long as there is any possibility of improvement or recovery. Many believe that to neglect water and nutrition to any patient is equivalent to euthanasia, and unacceptable medical practice. With Labour's Mental Capacity Act for Doctors, nurses and social workers, medical personnel will be held liable if they ignore or refuse to abide by living wills or advanced directives - and the government promises to use "draconian measures" against those who refuse. Caregivers that cannot conscientiously withhold hydration and nutrition are required by law to turn their patients over to another care giver that is able to do so. While there is undoubtedly significantly opportunity for abuse with this new law, it also offers real compassion to those who wish to avoid useless end of life measures that only sustain a portion of one's physical functions long after useful life has passed. Many professional and lay people believe that it is one thing to live and enjoy long life, but quite something else to suffer days, weeks, months, and sometimes years imprisoned in a hospital bed in some morbid state. It is understandable that one who does not know God as a loving friend could be afraid to die - or to let die, but for one who knows God, death need not be frightening. God wants nothing more than to give to each one eternal life in a new world free from sin and the terrible consequences we are all so familiar with. And while the Bible gives no assurance that unbelievers will be among those who spend eternity with Him, it paints a picture of God who hurts when we hurt and who cries when we cry. While sin and those who cling to it will be eliminated, we may be certain that it will be done in the most painless way possible. God's "strange act" will not be a purgatory or a fire in hell that burns for eternity as is so often portrayed. Those who are willing to give careful study to the topic in the Bible will discover the truth of the matter. (Click here to read about what happens when we die) Ocean's living creatures threatened. Dec. 18, 2006 Pollution, over-fishing and other environmental factors are depleting the ocean's waters of their life-blood. Already, of the species of marine life fished commercially, 29% have been reduced to less than 10% of their yields during good times. Should present trends continue, the fishing industry will essentially collapse by 2048 - meaning the only sea-food available will come from fish farms - which have their own set of problems. While some consider the findings of the marine researchers as reported in the Journal, Science as overly pessimistic, no one refutes the seriousness of the problem. With careful management, marine scientists have been able to avoid over-fishing and depletion of species, but given the appetite of the world society for seafood, it seems unlikely international agreements will be established in time to prevent the anticipated collapse. The problem is bad enough for those depending upon commercial fishing for a living, but is compounded for those peoples depending upon seafood for their daily sustenance. All of which is to say, even the oceans are warning us. Our world is now experiencing the judgments of God. We, the inhabitants of planet earth are now witnessing the consequences (as evidence in a courtroom) of 6 thousand years of unrestrained disregard to the laws of a loving God. A world, designed to last forever if carefully managed, has nigh passed the point of no return, just as predicted in the Holy Bible. And as predicted, when judgment is complete, and it is plain for all to see what we are doing to ourselves, Jesus will return to put an end to sin, and to rescue such as are faithful to Him. (Click here to read more about the judgment) Learning from the Neanderthals! Dec. 18, 2006 Scientists working with genetic material obtained from a thighbone found in the Vindija Cave in Croatia, have sequenced a portion of nuclear DNA from what they believe is a Neanderthal man dating back at least 24,000 years. Studies to this point suggest the "Neanderthals" confirm the distinctive differences between them and humans, and so far have failed to prove contribution from them to the human genetic pool. None-the-less, scientists hope to sequence the whole Neanderthal genome during the next couple years in an effort to clarify the genetic relationship with humans. While Bible believing Creationists have no need to investigate such a theorized connection, knowing the power of their Creator God to create at will, non-believers and those biased towards evolution will not rest until their point has been proven. (Click here to read evidence supporting the validity of the Bible) A "bionic hornet" in the works! Dec. 18, 2006 Thirty five hundred years ago when God led the Israelites out of Egypt, He told them He would send hornets before them to drive out their enemies. (Exodus 23:28) Today, Israel is working to give new meaning to that ancient text. Within the next three years, Israelite scientists expect to have a "bionic hornet" ready to serve the role of the ancient hornets. Tiny flying robots no larger than hornets created by using the tools of nanotechnology, will have the capacity to photograph, chase and kill their targets - often accomplishing missions now dependent upon multimillion-dollar planes and other modern weapons. While we may be intrigued by the potential of such technology, it is interesting that so much of our energy, intellect and financial means are committed to things that kill and destroy rather than to save life and to heal. Why should this be? God, through the Holy Bible has given us an instruction manual which, if studied and its principles widely applied, would give us life and health and happiness - yet we expend our means on weapons of destruction. Atheists, agnostics, evolutionists, and all other unbelievers may exult in their wisdom, so called, but none have an answer to this question of why we do such things! Only in the context of a war between good and evil as described in the Holy Scriptures can one begin to find an answer to the question that really does make sense. Kathleen Melonakos, M.A., R.N., a nurse representative of the Delaware Family Foundation, notes that homosexuality is the only "disease" that kills its victims at a young age, yet it is not recognized as a disease, nor treated as such by the Medical profession. Whereas any other lethal illness would generate malpractice suits unless properly treated, homosexuality is sloughed off by the profession as untreatable - never generating malpractice law suits for failure to treat. While it is true, homosexuality may not always be "cured" by treatment, it can be prevented, and many, even as adults, can be successfully treated if appropriately motivated - at least as effectively as a number of other social diseases. Based upon her experience caring for homosexuals, nurse Melanakos holds the American Psychiatric Association and the American psychological Association "'criminally responsible' for their complicity in helping to create the 'culture of denial about the lethalness of homosexual sex' and their 'attitude of political correctness that is killing a substantial proportion of persons' engaged in active homosexuality." Unfortunately, it is not only the medical profession that has let the homosexual community down. Even "loving" Christian churches often seem to be afraid to reach out and help homosexual people find healing through the power of the gospel! Shame on us! Dec. 11, 2006 Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (high tech imaging) studies of the brains of young people playing violent video games as compared to those playing non-violent games revealed increased activity in those areas responsible for emotional arousal and decreased activity in areas dealing with self-control, focus and concentration. While these are short-term findings, undoubtedly mimicking brain response to violent real life situations, studies determining the long-term effect of the games are limited. On the other hand, many studies have already confirmed the adverse effect of exposure to violent media (television, etc.) It would seem strange if video games did not have a similar effect of making "gamers" more aggressive also. Dec. 4, 2006 In a rare show of unity, Muslims, Christians and Jews joined their voice and their influence to drive this year's Gay Pride Parade off the streets of Jerusalem and into a soccer stadium at Hebrew University. For security purposes, 3 thousand or more police surrounded the stadium to ward off potential conflicts - and this in a country also under treat of revenge by Palestinians from Gaza as pay back for Israel's recent attack on Gaza that killed civilians and children. Ultra-orthodox Jews are gaining increasing visibility in Jerusalem. 18 of 31 seats in Jerusalem are now controlled by religious parties, and Jerusalem's mayor, Uri Lupolianski, is ultra-orthodox. Pork is unavailable in most parts of the city, and automobiles are not allowed on many streets on Sabbath. Not to be outdone, the Vatican too demanded the event be canceled for fear of offending the "sensibilities of religious communities." While some may be surprised at the growing influence of religion in the public sectors of our world, it seems only natural they should rise up against the evils of society. Indeed, just such a phenomenon is predicted in the Holy Bible. (Click here to read more) Scientists envision Chimeric embryos. Dec. 4, 2006 Dr. Lyle Armstrong and colleagues at the North East Stem Cell Institute in Newcastle, have applied to the Human Fertilization and embryology Authority for permission to create chimeric embryos (crosses between humans and animals) to produce stem cells for human medical research. By placing the genetic material from human somatic cells (skin, etc.) into eggs of rabbits, cows, goats, etc., the scientists hope to create an abundant supply of stem cells with which to study their function. While the motives of these scientists may be pure, they are playing with things that belong to God alone. The fact that we may not be able to see the negative consequences of such research does not give it justification. (Click here to read more about genetics) Play Station 3 arrives! Dec. 4, 2006 Play Station 3 has arrived in the United States to the delight of American gamers. For the price of a mere $500 - $600 dollars, Sony's PlayStation 3 now joins Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's revolutionary Wii game console to entertain Americans in their spare time. With this latest toy, owners get an Internet browser, wireless controllers with the capability of sensing motion, and Blue-ray DVD readers that are said to make game playing like as if one is controlling characters in animated films. Seeing the condition of the world in which we now find ourselves, faced with wars that have no end, environmental conditions that threaten our very existence, poverty, epidemics, and a myriad of other threats to our existence, should not intelligent people rather be spending their time and resources working to correct these threatening conditions of planet earth - if not preparing to meet their soon coming Lord - rather than "playing" while Rome burns? (Click here to read more) Response to global climate change lacks leadership! Dec. 4, 2006 U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, speaking to an annual gathering of environmental ministers meeting in Kenya, warned that climate change poses as great a threat to the survival of man as does conflict, poverty or weapons of mass destruction. Climate change secondary to carbon pollution imperils agriculture by its effect on drought and increasing natural disasters, costal cities by rising sea levels, and health by mosquito born disease - any or all of which may accelerate destabilizing tensions and migrations already evident in many parts of the world. Unless both rich nations and high population developing nations like Brazil, China and India work together to reduce carbon emissions, we may expect costs from natural disasters approaching $1000 billion annually by 2040. Until now, Annan notes, leadership has been "frighteningly" lacking - most everyone recognizing the growing problems, but no one willing to make the necessary economic investments to make a difference. It will take more than technological innovations, as proposed by the U.S., to avert disaster according to the Secretary General. So far, there is no good evidence to suggest significant changes will be made before we have passed the point of no return - a point we are rapidly approaching if not already breached. (Click here to read prophecy about our times) "We are heading for an entirely preventable humanitarian catastrophe!" Nov. 27, 2006 Kevin Watkins, in writing the annual U.N. Human Development Report, said, "We are heading for an entirely preventable humanitarian catastrophe." Watkins was referring to the rapidly worsening situation of the estimated 830 million people now living in poverty and subsistence farming where water supplies are dwindling. Already, an estimated 2 million children die annually for want of clean water and sanitation. Because of rising temperatures associated with green house gas emissions, worsening drought, and anticipated population growth to 3 billion during the next 25 years, needed assistance to farming in high-risk places is expected to reach $10 billion annually by 2010 (as compared to $3.2 presently). While Watkins describes a possibility, the probability of willingness to commit the added billions of dollars seems highly improbable, given our social mentality of meeting our own wants and needs before helping our neighbors. Nov. 27, 2006 Soon, if the New York Board of Health has its way, one may be able to change his/her sexual gender merely by changing his/her birth certificate. According to the proposed policy, no medical or surgical procedures would be necessary as evidence of gender choice. Given the gender change, no change need be made in the definition of marriage! While there are a few people who are truly born with physical characteristics of both genders, giving some cause for confusion, and a few more that are truly oriented mentally and emotionally toward a gender different than their physical appearance, the vast majority of gays and lesbians have undoubtedly been created by the environment of the home and society in which they were born and "nurtured," or, disillusioned by society's nigh destruction of the family unit have consciously chosen it rather than to get caught in unhappy relationships with those of the opposite sex. Homosexuality is not according to the original plan of God for human beings. It is a result of sin as it has developed through the ages. If we truly love one another as the Bible admonishes and as Jesus taught, we will love the gay and lesbian as any other person - but such love does not condone those actions and behaviors that perpetuates the sin - just as heterosexual sin cannot be condoned. Rather, true love will encourage those measures most beneficial for healing, both for the involved individual and for our broken society - possible through the power of God alone. Nov. 20, 2006 The human shield composed of Palestine women assembled to protect 60 gunmen holed up in the al-Nasir mosque in Beit Hanoun was filled with holes as two of their members died and several others were wounded under Israeli firepower. Successful, in the sense that the men escaped the mosque and the tightly guarded city, the price was, never the less, high in this senseless cycle of violence taking place in the Middle East. One might argue that the women were not innocent victims, but rather, active participants in the warfare. Be that as it may, what is of greater significance is the fact that our world is rapidly approaching the condition of violence described in the Bible as present in the days just preceding the flood from which only Noah and his immediate family escaped alive. Whether the biblical reference to God causing the flood indicates an active role by Him, or a permissive role in which human beings brought on their own destruction by interfering with the balance of nature is perhaps not relevant for this discussion. What is very clear is the fact that society had reached a point where God saw that death was a merciful relief from the violent society then present - a point that we are already sensing in the early 21st century. Again, we might debate whether God will take the initiative for the destruction of the world, this time by fire instead of a flood, or whether He will permit us to destroy ourselves through war and a destroyed environmental echo system - but the fact remains, we are already on an irreversible course toward universal annihilation just as predicted would occur just before the return of Jesus and the end of the world. Nov. 20, 2006 Glossolalia, the practice of speaking in tongues, screws down the electrical activity of the frontal lobes of the brain (the portion of the brain that are responsible for reason, judgment, conscience, etc.) while the "Holy Spirit" "moves" the soul. Whereas when one is involved in thoughtful communication with another person, the frontal lobes are normally actively engaged in what is going on - a phenomenon now measurable by looking at blood flow to the brain by Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) (a highly technical imaging process). While speaking in tongues, blood flow to the frontal lobes is markedly slowed, suggesting a relative disengagement of the intelligent portion of the brain. Until now, no one has identified the physiology involved when a man communicates with God. One might guess that at the time a person is engaged in intense and deliberate prayer with God, the frontal lobes would light up with high blood flow - a guess that has yet to be verified. But even that does not explain the mechanism by which the human brain receives and transmits intelligent information between heaven and earth, from the mind of God to the mind of man, and back again! What then must be occurring in the brains of those speaking in tongues? (Click here to read about God's desire to communicate with us actively) Something to think about! Global warming, critical risk, but reversible! Nov. 20, 2006 Planet earth is in a critical position with global warming. The risk is reversible if urgently and vigorously dealt with, but if neglected it is estimated it will cost the world economy more that World War I, World War II and the great depression of the 1930's combined. Greenhouse gasses pose the greatest immediate threat, with current atmospheric levels of CO2 of about 430 ppm (parts per million) as compared to pre-industrial levels of about 230 ppm. According to the Stern Review released on October 30, concentrations exceeding 550 ppm will increase global temperatures between 2 and 3 degrees - enough to melt glaciers, causing flooding of costal regions, drought and famine to billions (especially of the world's poorest people), and extinction of as many as 40% of plant and animal species. The 10% projected economic decline would mean $350 - $700 per month reduction of income for the average American family. By protecting our present forests, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from our cars, homes and factories and finding cheaper, cleaner, renewable sources of energy many of these threats may be prevented - but only if all the nations of earth get their act together and go to work. The Stern review was commissioned by U.K Chancellor Gordon Brown and represents the most comprehensive study of the effect of climate change on the economy that has ever been done. Violence to children, sign of our times! Nov. 13, 2006 Violence against children is accepted as the norm in most nations of our modern world according to a U.N. report recently released. Data from the World Health Organization estimates that in 2002, "150 million girls and 70 million boys were subjected to forced sexual intercourse and other forms of violence involving touch, while 53 million were killed." Louise Arbour, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, stated in her report that, "Legalized violence against children in one context risks tolerance of violence against children generally." Such an undoubtedly correct statement is troubling indeed, and signifies the moral depravity of our times. When corrective discipline with a smack on the behind cannot be distinguished from forced sexual intercourse, something is drastically wrong in society. When penal practices can no longer be utilized as an effective disciplinary tool in society, what possible hope can there be that that society will survive? What other practices exist that can serve that same function? Perhaps this is the reason that our Bibles tell us that it was for violence that God's hand was forced to send the flood and destroy such as destroy one another, and why He will come again, this time to cleanse the world with fire! Fortunately, as in Noah's day, God has provided a means of escape for all who will turn to Him in true penitence, to live eternally in a better world made new where violence will never again occur in any form - and where even the hand of discipline will no longer be needed. When there are no other options, what else is a loving God to do? (Click here to read more) War in Iraq, a mistake? - Or a sign of the times? Nov. 13, 2006 The war in Iraq has now engaged American troops longer that World War II, and shows no sign of ending any time soon. Because of the war in Iraq, President Bush has lost political clout and prestige, at home and abroad. Because of the war, America has lost prestige, credibility and influence around the world. October 2006 has been one of the costliest in terms of casualties to U.S. troops since the beginning of the war, and there is no promise things will change overnight. Now, whether the war in Iraq is responsible for increasing terrorist activity or for containing it is debatable, but President Bush continues to insist that it has been a price a free society must be willing to pay for national security. In any event, the war has been one more destabilizing factor in a world already challenging the religious sector to exert a greater influence over the political scene - just a predicted in the Bible. It has been said that there are no atheists in a foxhole. As one looks about at the world and the terrible things that are happening everywhere, it is becoming ever less difficult to understand those Bible prophecies predicting a time when the church and the state (yes, even atheists) will find it necessary to unite their forces in a frantic attempt to force an unruly society back to obedience to the Law of God. Nov. 6, 2006 26 thousand delegates left the 16th International AIDS Conference in Toronto with the hope that the day may come when AIDS is no longer the threat that it poses today. While no one is anticipating a single treatment that will eliminate the epidemic, AIDS scientists speak of using a multifaceted approach to eventually bring the virus under control. Present recommendations include: 1. Providing effective treatment for all HIV infected persons - that reduces their contagiousness to near zero. 2. Circumcision of males - apparently reduces likelihood of contracting AIDS. 3. Microbicides used as vaginal gels to kill the HIV virus on contact. 4. Chronic treatment of Herpes infections - hoping that in so doing, persons will be more resistant to becoming infected with HIV. 5. The use of prophylactic antiviral drugs taken before sexual contact to prevent infection. 6. Anti-viral diaphragms and other similar devices. 7. Universal HIV testing to catch the disease in its early stages before it has spread to others. 8. An HIV vaccine - already being claimed in China. While it is entirely possible that these and other means may indeed make a positive impact on controlling the terrible devastation of AIDS, it is highly unlikely they will ever solve the problem - a problem not caused by deficiency of medicine, but by sexual indiscretion that ignores the law of God - that is the only sure way of preventing AIDS. Yet, this one certain means of prevention is seldom spoken about, though everyone knows faithful compliance to it would be 100% effective. One must wonder why! Of the 111.1 million households in America in 2005, only 55.2 million (49.7%) were married. Unmarried opposite sex partners, male partners and female partners now make up the majority. While is would be easy to condemn those that fail, for any reason to marry, this is not a time for condemnation, but rather, a time to call for true repentance and a return to true godliness. Our society is fractured and dysfunctional, leaving all of us bruised, battered and burdened with the things we have inherited genetically, acquired from our society, and/or personally adapted in an attempt to cope with the messed up world into which we have been delivered. There is only one answer to our rapidly increasing need, and that is a living relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while awaiting the day when the curtain on the "tragedy" of planet earth will be pulled and He will return to claim His own. Pray that day may be hastened! (Click here to read more) Gadahn indicted for treason! Nov. 6, 2006 Adam Yehiye Gadahn has been indicted on federal charges of treason for providing material support to terrorists. According to the indictment filed in Orange County, California, Gadahn knowingly supported al-Qaeda with the intent to betray the United States. Gadahn recently appeared in a video with al-Qaeda's number 2 leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, calling on Americans to join Islam, and for American military personnel to switch sides in Iraq and Afghanistan. Appearing in an al-Qaeda video in 2004, Gadahn announced his conversion to Islam, describing it as "A movement waging war on America and killing large numbers of Americans." … "The streets of America shall run red with blood." Also known as Azzam the American, Gadahn is an American by birth that converted to Islam in 1997. Gadahn is the first American to be indicted for treason since WW II. He is believed to be residing in Pakistan. A one million dollar reward is available for information leading to his arrest, and a possible death sentence awaits Azzam. Treason is properly recognized as the single worst crime a citizen can commit since it explicitly indicates intent to overthrow the government. While some people have trouble understanding God's war against evil, it may be helpful to realize that it too is an indictment against treason by one, Satan, one of the very highest angelic officials in the government of God, and denying the very law by which that government operates. Nov. 6, 2006 One per every thousand students in the state of Missouri (815 total) experienced an incident involving a dangerous weapon during the past year. For the kids in Joplin, that incidence was 3 per thousand. Fortunately, the October 9 incident ended up without loss of life, apparently because the gun jammed. But the incident serves to remind Americans that we are living in a different time and a different world than was experienced by even the previous generation. In every describable way, our world is on a downward spiral with rapidly increasing momentum toward self-destruction. We see it not only in social unrest, but in pollution of every sort, environmental problems, genetic engineering (that some erroneously see as improvements rather than destruction), and in nearly every other area of life. The Bible refers to our age as the age of final judgment of planet earth. Judgment, in its final analysis, is a revelation of evidence regarding events, past and present. Certainly the events of our times confirm the Bible prophecy. (Click here to read more) 300 million, and counting! Oct. 30, 2006 More than 300 million people now claim citizenship in the United States of America, and the numbers are increasing daily at the rate of one person every 11 seconds. Every 7 seconds, a baby is born; every 13 seconds someone dies, and every 31 seconds an immigrant attains citizenship. From these figures, one obtains an understanding of the role of immigration on population growth, though somewhat skewed because it does not consider the 10 million or more illegal immigrants. While in the past, most immigrants came to America as refugees from religious persecution or war. Today, economic incentives predominate. Whereas former immigrants usually appreciated their new freedom and became loyal citizens to their new home, many present day immigrants maintain dual citizenship, often with primary loyalty to the homeland of their birth. There is a sense in which this is like a Christian's citizenship in heaven while attempting to retain citizenship in the world at the same time, enjoying its pleasures and giving loyalty to it instead of to God. Oct. 30, 2006 It didn't take long for the United Nations Security Council to cast a unanimous vote in favor of sanctions against North Korea following her first nuclear test. According to the resolution, North Korea must eliminate all of its weapons of mass destruction and return "without preconditions" to six nation talks designed to contain its nuclear intentions. Other sanctions imposed on the nation include a ban on the sale of heavy military equipment and the trade of materials for weapons of mass destruction. While the mechanics of administering the sanctions are still to be worked out, these measures are an attempt to curtail North Korea's nuclear expansion. Though leaving the door for six nation talks open just a crack, North Korea's U.N. Ambassador, Pak Gilyon, walked out of the council condemning it for its "gangster-like" action. Peril in America's schools. Oct. 23, 2006 The third school shooting within a one-week span was also the worst. Five little girls were dead and four critically wounded before Charles C. Roberts turned the gun on himself and died - even before fulfilling his plan to molest the girls. His reason? He was angry at God for letting his premature baby die nine years earlier. Whatever the reason, it doesn't make sense. If this was an isolated incident, it would be bad enough, but coming on the heels of two others in one week, and numerous similar incidents and attempts in recent years tell us something is terribly wrong with our society. Ours is a "Christian" society that professes belief in God. It would seem this fact ought to make us patient and loving, giving and supporting life - not taking it! Is God at fault? We all know He could have prevented the carnage! Or are we humans merely reaping the harvest of six thousand years "playing" religion while "worshiping" the gods of this world? It is one thing to fight for moral laws but quite something different to have God's law of love implanted and effectual within the human heart (mind). Would that might be our goal while awaiting the return of Jesus who will finally bring an end to the tragedy of this world. (Click here to read more) Many earth-like planets in the universe. Oct. 16, 200 An international team of scientists has recently reported findings observed through the Hubble Telescope that suggest that our sun is not the only star with planets, and our earth is not the only inhabitable planet in the universe. In fact, the article published in the journal, Nature, suggests that there are likely billions of such planets in our Milky Way Galaxy, not to mention the remainder of the billions of other galaxies. Of course, people have been trying to make contact with intelligent life on other planets for years, but until now, there has been no confirmation that such planets actually existed. Though the Bible does not state directly that there other inhabited worlds out there, the implication of such is very strong. In the Book of Job, we read that the "sons of God" came together to meet with God, and Satan came from planet earth. Other texts also suggest the existence of "un-fallen" worlds witnessing the lethal effects of sin and of God's saving efforts as they are occurring on planet earth. Oct. 16, 2006 This years Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to two Americans for their discovery of "blackbody radiation" that appears to confirm the "Big Bang" theory regarding the origin of the universe. "Blackbody radiation" is believed to be the cosmic radiation created by the birth of the universe at the time of the "Big Bang." By carefully measuring this radiation in various places throughout the universe, John C. Mather and George F. Smoot have provided evidence that is accepted by many physicists as consistent with this "Big Bang" theory. Unfortunately, the "Big Bang" theory is in direct conflict with the Biblical model or origins, and opposed to discoveries and calculations by physicists such as Robert V. Gentry. These have presented solid evidence confirming the instantaneous creation of the earth, and have placed the center of the universe within the Milky Way galaxy, both consistent with the Bible record. While both the findings of the Nobel winners and those of Gentry require faith to accept (it takes more faith to accept the Big Bang!"), nothing in the scientific world provides answers to both physical and moral law like the Holy Bible. One need only look at the world around us in comparison to the ideal established by the Bible to see how far we humans have missed the mark of God's ideal for us - and consequently, of our role in the totality of the universe. A society may think to understand all things scientific, but if it has no standards of conduct or ability to maintain healthy interpersonal relationships, it cannot survive for the long term. Only love can do this, and modern science has no treasury from which to obtain this. (Click here to read more) "Only the U.N. can solve world problems." Oct. 16, 2006 In his final address before the U.N. General Assembly, U.N. Secretary General, Kofi Annan, could not resist reference to the pope's recent speech at the University of Regansburg, Germany, in which he touched a cord that infuriated the Islamic world. "Insensitivity," Annan said, "towards other people's beliefs or sacred symbols - intentional or otherwise - is seized upon by those who seem eager to foment a new war of religion on a global scale." Secretary Annan pointed out the fact that the Israeli-Arab conflict is not an isolated event, but is in fact the spark that ignites the flame of violence in areas far removed from the Middle East. He then went on to note that in our now small global community with its environmental challenges, fair trade issues, immigration problems, HIV/AIDS epidemic and human rights issues, the U.N. is the only hope of finding resolution. Unfortunately, the U.N.'s record on resolving these issues has not been too impressive - in fact many consider it a near failure. Should we therefore expect it to do better in the future? Of Course, the pope would like to think that Christianity can, by reason and discussion (logos), resolve world conflict and bring peace - but neither does he (the Church) have such a good record. Perhaps, when all is said and done, the Bible is correct when it claims that in this world there is no peace, but that we are on an irreversible path of self-destruction that can only be averted by the return of our loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May that day come soon! In the mean time, let His people love one another, in both word and deed. (Click here to read more about the return of Jesus) Blue Cross/Blue Shield puts VeriChip to the test. Oct. 9, 2006 Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Jersey is preparing to do a two-year pilot study using VeriChip's VeriMed implantable Patient Identification System on selected patients with chronic medical conditions. Instead of having to spend precious time waiting for medical records, patients arriving at the emergency department for care who have a VeriMed implant containing a 16 digit identifier will gain immediate access to their personal electronic medical record. In addition to saving time and money, it is anticipated the chip will also reduce medical errors. While this is the first time the digital technology will be tried on patients, it is almost certain not to be the last. In fact, this is likely just the beginning of an era when implantable chips will open all sorts of "doors," including personal identification. Behavioral profiling on the rise at America's airports. Oct. 9, 2006 The world has changed since 9/11, and even more since 8/9, 2006 - since a plot to bomb multiple transatlantic flights was discovered. Those explosives were liquids and gels, and disguised to appear as usual, everyday travel products. They have added just one more complication to the lives of air travelers. X-ray machines are no longer sufficient to prevent carry-on explosives. Metal detectors can no longer identify major explosives. Satisfactory techniques are not available for detecting liquid explosives. And though air travelers must now leave their metals, their liquids and gels at home and have their carry-ons and shoes X-rayed, and their bodies "puffed" for explosives, our security is still not guaranteed. Building on the success Israel has had with the process, behavioral profiling is now the by-word among security experts. While racial profiling is still taboo, observing for suspicious behaviors and of specific groups is perfectly acceptable. The concern today is terrorism, but many of the systems established to detect terrorists may be equally effective in identifying other "undesirables," whoever they may be. While dissatisfied societies do not have sophisticated weapons with which to engage the world's armies, many are discovering the terrible effectiveness of suicide bombers in obtaining their objectives. In no place in the world have these been used more effectively than among the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka. This is the place where the concealed suicide bomb vest was apparently developed and where it continues to be used in the Tiger's war for independence. While radical Muslims have been getting the most attention by the world's Press, Hindu's and Catholics alike are sacrificing their lives for the "greater good" in Sri Lanka. Perhaps we should not be surprised, for the world we live in today is broken and hurting. It is not only people in poverty stricken lands that struggle for purpose and meaning in life, but among the wealthy as well. This is well testified to by the high incidence of high-risk behaviors, drugs, sex, certain "sports", and even suicide itself - in all societies. Political and religious leaders continue to talk about establishing peace and solving the world's problems, but everyone knows this will never happen. As a world society, we have passed beyond the point of no return. Our only hope at this point is to be found in the promise of Jesus to come to earth again, this time to rescue those who are waiting for Him - and the greatest joy of those waiting ones is to find others to meet Him too. America is soon to be the target of major, but unspecified, attacks by al-Qaida on New York, Washington D.C. and other major cities. Muslims choosing to stay and act as human shields will not be immune form the attacks, having been adequately forewarned. The fact that al-Qaida's U.S. coordinator, Adnan el-Shukrijumah, is a trained nuclear technician and able pilot leads some to suspect the use of nuclear weapons in the next attack - which al-Qaida claims will be carried out by people with western names. Al-Qaida's goal is to turn America to ashes in exchange for her support of Israel in the murder of Muslims in Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan and other lands. Even American security agents acknowledge that it is not a matter of if, but of when, America will again be the target of Muslim extremists. The Bible warns, speaking of our day, that it will be a time of trouble since this world has never seen - during which one's only security will be in knowing and trusting in Jesus as Lord and Savior. Sept. 25, 2006 Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project, has become a "believer" in God as in his studies he sees something in the 3.1 billion words in the genetic code that no one has ever seen before - but that "God has known from all eternity." "One of the greatest tragedies of our time," he says, "is this impression that has been created that science and religion have to be at war." Dr. Collins credits his new found faith to the witness of some of his weakest and sickest patients who, when in the midst of suffering and facing death, instead of cursing God, seemed to find in Him a source of comfort. Dr. Collins' new book, "The Language of God," recognizes the majesty of this God who created all things, including the operating manual by which the human "machine" functions. Sept. 18. 2006 California, the world's 12th largest producer of greenhouse gases is repenting, imposing a cap on greenhouse gas production of 25% over the next 14 years. This act makes California the first state to do so, and a world leader in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A full 41% of all emissions are produced by motor vehicles - the means by which most California citizens get where they wish to go. Should emissions remain at present levels, it is estimated that global temperature would be up to 10 degrees warmer than now by the end of the present century. Other states are already beginning to follow California's example. Unfortunately, even these efforts may be too little too late! Never-the-less, based on hope that it may help, California can be pleased that its leadership has stepped out boldly to protect it's future and the future of the whole world. Now, if the citizens of the state would only repent of its other sins as well, our whole world would be a better place. (Click here to read more) Proselytism outlawed in India. Sept. 11, 2006 India's high court has decreed that police do not have to have a court order to arrest Christian ministers (or anyone else) suspected of attempting to gain converts to their faith. While the ruling appears to be contrary to India's constitution guaranteeing freedom of religion, Christians working to spread the Good News to India must be prepared to accept police harassment should Hindu extremists wish to stop them. This ruling is undoubtedly a response to the clamor of the masses of India flocking to Jesus for salvation and freedom from age-long suppression. Pray that nothing will be able to stop the proclamation of the Gospel to those in India that are seeking the truth as it exists in knowing and serving Jesus, the Lord. Kids who watch violence become violent! Sept. 11, 2006 In a study reported in the August issue of the journal, Pediatrics, young people who watch professional wrestling on television are more likely to exhibit violent behavior that others. Of these, girls are the most affected by the media violence. Another study, also reported in the same issue of Pediatrics noted that girls that listened to sexually degrading music have sex sooner than teens who do not - 51% of whom will have sex within two years. Kimberley Thompson, a professor at Harvard University's School of Public Health, in responding to the research said, "It's yet more evidence that when it comes to kids and media, learning happens." The Bible agrees. It says that we are changed by those things we watch. Is it any wonder then that violence and immoral sexual behaviors are consuming almost our whole society? (Click here to read more about the Bible predictions for our day) "Climate refugees," a new phenomena! Sept. 11, 2006 America has the distinction of being the first place on earth to claim "climate refugees." It is estimated that 250 thousand of the 350 thousand persons evacuated from the Gulf coast following Hurricane Katrina will not return to their former regions for fear of repeating their experience with storms and floods. These persons are being classified as climate refugees. Many scientists believe that global warming contributes to the increasing frequency and intensity of disastrous storms - and that global warming is caused largely by greenhouse gases. It is interesting that America, the largest single producer of these green house gasses, is also the first to experience the creation of "climate refugees!" Is there a lesson here for Americans - and others? (Click here to read more about natural disasters and the end times) "Morning after" pills no longer require prescription. Sept. 11, 2006 Women showing proof of age over 18 years can now purchase the "morning after" pills without a prescription according to a recent ruling of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Plan B, as it is sometimes called, has met with much resistance in recent years as opponents have expressed concerns that such easy access of the drug would encourage even greater sexual license. Additionally, many people are concerned that the medication is just another way to have an abortion, and discredit it on that basis. Authorities, on the other hand are not as certain, claiming that the pills prevent ovulation, fertilization by a sperm, and implantation of the fertilized egg in the womb. Unfortunately, Western society has already lost much of its moral direction regarding sexual matters, and it is easy to make the argument that it is better to use the pills than to bring unwanted children into the dysfunctional world we find ourselves. One might wonder why those who are making such an outcry against abortion are not taking a stronger stand for sexual morality such that abortion would not be needed - yet there is relative silence about such matters. Why? Order your own made-to-order embryo today! Sept. 4, 2006 You can now order your own made-to-order embryo from the Abraham Center of Life, a private in-vitro fertilization facility in San Antonio, Texas for about $10,000. The lab, using the latest technological advances, has begun to create and sell embryos having the genetic characteristics desired by their clients. In addition to providing embryos with the desired physical characteristics, the center claims all of its sperm donors have PhD's. (Click here to read more) Fear is the word! Sept. 4, 2006 Flight 923 from Britain to the U.S. is escorted by two fighter jets and forced to land in Boston. A passenger jet undergoes extensive search in Sydney airport following a phone call received in the Philippines. A bomb scare at the Port of Seattle forces evacuation of terminal 18 after dogs "sniff" explosives in two containers from Pakistan. Scares continue to occur. Meanwhile, only about half of the fifty terrorists suspected in the mid August plan to take down transatlantic planes have been rounded up and arrested, leaving open the real possibility of yet more incidents. Nor are security experts able to reassure the public, recognizing the ever increasing number of dissidents that are willing to sacrifice their lives and the lives of everyone else for the cause they believe in. In describing our times, the Bible says it will be a time of trouble such as never was before, and "men's hearts failing them for fear of those things that are coming upon the earth." (See Luke 21:25-28) While it is unlikely things are going to get better on the international scene, as individuals we can confess our sins and commit our lives to God, trusting in His benevolent care until Jesus returns to put an end to everything evil. (Click here to read about God's love for each one of us) The planes are still flying. Sept. 4, 2006 A plot to blow up as many as ten transatlantic flights from Europe to the U.S. has apparently been foiled by intelligence officials working in Pakistan, England, the U.S. and other countries. More than thirty detainees from Britain and Pakistan with apparent connections to Al-Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan are being questioned and their computers examined for evidence. Others are still on the loose. While a major disaster of the magnitude of 9/11 has apparently been averted, airline travel has been delivered another major setback at a time when it was only beginning to recover from the destruction of the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Sept. 4, 2006 After more than a month of intense fighting, loss of billions of dollars worth of property and infrastructure and hundreds of lives, Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a cease fire. According to the agreement, the Lebanese army with help from a U.N. force will serve to maintain the peace in Southern Lebanon. The Lebonese government will assume responsibility of Hezbollah, and Israel will withdraw to her own land as soon as the peacekeepers get in place. Neither Israel nor Hezbollah are able to claim victory. Israel has met its match in a much smaller, less sophisticated military, and Hezbollah, because she drew Israel into Lebanon in the first place, must accept responsibility for the destruction and loss that Lebanon has suffered. And while a cease-fire has been called and signed, reality may yet prove much different. At any rate, this is only one cease-fire in what is certain to be merely one battle in a world on a path toward self annihilation - except there should be intervention from outer space. Thank God, the Bible promises that intervention at the proper time. (Click here to read more about that day) Typhoon Saomai devastates China. Aug. 28, 2006 Typhoon Saomai, the most powerful typhoon to hit China in more than fifty years has claimed hundreds of lives and caused extensive damage to the costal cities of Fujain and Zhejiang. Earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, droughts and fires continue in record numbers in various sites around the world. In the United States, global warming has brought record high temperatures that continue to cause suffering and death. While sometimes we tend to become complacent because of the frequency of these natural disasters - until they involve us - they are never the less given to us as signs of the times in which we live. Six thousand years of sin has had its effect on planet earth, and we are witnessing the consequences - which, according to the Holy Bible, will continue to escalate until heaven declares, "It is enough." Then Jesus will come to rescue all who are ready and waiting for Him. (Click here to read more) "Drugs are not child's play!" Aug. 21, 2006 With an estimated 5% of the world's people between the ages of 15 to 64 admitting to the use of illicit drugs during the past year, and the effect of this use on children, the U.N. Office of Drugs and Crime have chosen the theme, "Drugs are not child's play," for its 2006 International Campaign theme. As if this news is not bad enough, weekend "risk drinking" of alcohol is reported in some countries as involving a third of the adult population. And yes, it is the kids of these who suffer the most - and who, often, also become "druggies." But what else is there to do when one must escape the turmoil of this world but there is no place else to go - and all have failed? Yes, there is religion - and many have tried it - but even religion, unless one is willing to make a full surrender to the life to God, the world's creator, can but fail to provide the desired results. Full surrender, on the other hand, satisfies the deepest yearnings of the human heart, and takes away the "need" to search in the trash heaps of popular society for that otherwise elusive unknown. Baby-X was born to Rachel Sullivan who received $23,000 from Arthuro Nuosci, a homosexual, to use his sperm to give him a child. Now, imprisoned for identity theft, Nuosci's sister is requesting Baby-X to live with her. While A Salt Lake couple is prepared to adopt the baby, the court has disallowed that and placed it in a foster home. Sullivan, the biologic mother, Nuosci, his sister, the adopted couple and the foster couple all claim custody rights to the baby - a case that has been referred to the Utah Supreme Court for disposition. Meanwhile, poor Baby-X doesn't really have a mommy and Daddy that he can call his own - to say nothing of having a healthy family atmosphere in which to grow up! It's just one example of the kind of problems that arise when we ignore God's laws regarding marriage and family, but it gives us a good idea of what to expect in the future as society chooses to ignore the Laws of God and pursue its own wisdom! (Click here to read about God's law) All the world, a battle field! Aug. 21, 2006 World War III has begun - at least if we believe Ayman al-Zawahiri, al-Qaeda's second in command. In a video recording broadcast by al-Jazeera television on July 26, al-Zawahiri declared, al-Qaeda will not remain silent in the face of a "Crusader War." "The world is a battle field open before us," he declared. "As they attack us everywhere, we will attack them everywhere. As they have joined forces to fight us, our nation will unite to fight them." While acknowledging the central role of Israel in its war against Gaza and Lebanon, al-Zawahiri accounted the whole "crusader alliance" guilty for its support of Israel. The Bible has not been silent about the terrible scenes to occur in the world in the last days before the return of Jesus to rescue His own (we haven't seen anything yet!), but neither has He left us hopeless. Numerous promises of hope and assurance are inscribed in those holy pages for those who will receive them. He has promised to be with His people in the time of trouble. Aug. 14, 2006 Israel continues to press hard against Hezbolla in Lebanon, bombing suspected Hezbolla strongholds, destroying supply routes and communication networks, and finally, occupying strategic sites in Southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, Israel herself is feeling the effects of war as hundreds of missiles convince Israelis that this war is not all one sided. While many in the international community see the devastation being caused by Israel's relentless bombings, no one seems ready to demand an end to the fighting - not yet at least. Lebanon is apparently powerless to control Hezbolla, Syria is in a difficult strategic position between Hezbolla and her Iranian support, and Iran's nuclear capabilities are not yet ready to fulfill her dream of spreading Shih Islam all the way to the Mediterranean sea and destroying Israel. Even other Arab nations are holding the rhetoric and fire, fearful of fanning the flames of Islamic sectarianism. Apparently the whole world knows that fanatical terrorism is not going to be eliminated by the use of force, but none seem to know how to respond. Fortunately, amidst the uncertainties, the Bible describes our God who has all things under control - who sets up kings, and takes them down, all according to His purpose. (See Daniel chapter 2) World events are falling into direct line with Bible prophecy for the end times of earth history. While we may expect present challenges and troubles to increase exponentially on all fronts, the return of Jesus and the end of sorrow is not far hence. Since President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyona took office in 2004, Indonesia has been hit by three tsunamis (one of these major), two earthquakes, a major volcanic eruption, and numerous floods and landslides. Is it any wonder people are wondering who is at fault? And while the president may not be able physically to prevent these natural disasters, if he is alienating the spirits, he may be to blame. Such is the reasoning being heard and felt among the populace. Some analysts attribute the growing beliefs to the religious and cultural characteristics of the majority of the populace - poor, uneducated, Muslim with strong Hindu, Buddhist, and mystical roots - while others suspect there may be some merit to their concerns. While it is not too difficult to attribute some types of disasters to the destructive things we are doing to our planet, earthquakes and volcanoes don’t lend themselves well to such reasoning - giving some credence to a spiritual dimension. In fact, some may recall how quickly Americans began making a connection between Hurricane Katrina and the voice of God. Anyone studying the Holy Bible knows that the disasters we have witnessed in recent years are only the beginning of sorrows. And, yes, at some point, when people can take no more, they will begin to do more than just talk. If God is using these disasters to tell us something, perhaps we ought to sit up and pay attention, many will demand. Already, we have had a hint of how well meaning religious people will call on governments to legislate behaviors designed to appease God. U.S. Christians are already rallying their numbers to exert pressure on the president and members of Congress. Then, we are told, it will not be the Islamic terrorists who capture the spotlight, but those who for conscience sake cannot go along with the legislated will of the majority. Are we preparing for that day? (Click here to read about the Church in Bible prophecy) Infected partners must tell! July 24, 2006 People living in California now have a right to know if a potential sexual partner has AIDS or other communicable illness according to a recent ruling of the state Supreme Court. Persons who fail to tell their partners that they have AIDS, even if they do not know they have it, may be held liable should they spread the disease to others. In arriving at its decision, the high court had to weigh one's right to protect one's self against another's right to privacy. For 25 years since the AIDS was first discovered, it has been kept wrapped in secrecy, based upon society's policy of one's right to privacy - a first in modern public health practice. Always before, the Department of Public Health has had the authority to test for disease and to quarantine infected cases. Not so with AIDS. Largely as a consequence of this failure by the Health Department, AIDS has spread like wild throughout the world. Finally, the California Supreme Court has taken a small step toward remedying this near universal mistake. Better late than never! North Korea shuts the door to the world even tighter. July 24, 2006 A defiant North Korean minister walked out of talks with the South and flew back to Pyongyang after South Korea's Unification Minister rejected the North's claim that its missile development and testing were not only for protection of the North, but for the whole Peninsula. China too has failed in its appeal to North Korea to go back to the six-nation discussion table over its nuclear program and has, in turn, gone along with the vote of the U.N. Security Council's recommended sanctions. Japan is furious over North Korea's missiles tests, and has threatened pre-emptive strikes against its nuclear facilities, increasing the tension between herself and South Korea who is fearful such threats will only increase the difficulty in getting the North back into negotiations. Meanwhile, North Korea has continued to flash its missiles for the world to see and talk about. Whether U.N. Security Council sanctions will be heard in Pyongyang is yet to be seen. July 24, 2006 One of New Jersey's unemployed persons caught in the state's recent budget crisis, told reporters, that if wasn't fed by the state, he would steal to get what he needs. Of course New Jersey is not the first or only state to have problems with theft and other crimes. It happened in New Orleans too, where looting and theft occurred openly following hurricane Katrina. In times past, though in times of war and conquest, terribly evil things have transpired, most societies most of the time have had a moral code to which the majority of their people subscribed. This is no longer true in most of the world today. When living is easy and everyone has sufficient to satisfy their needs and most of their wants, people even today can be pretty civil in public - but inject a bit of difficulty, and it doesn't take long for our collective behavior to change. It is a sign of our times. Jesus will return soon! (Click here to read more) God is not choosey! July 10, 2006 Apparently God is not choosey when He decides who should receive "glimpses of eternity" during "near death" experiences, at least if Dr. Fenwick's studies mean anything. According to psychiatrist, Peter Fenwick of the prestigious Kings College of London, as reported by SpiritDaily.com, people of all faiths, and those of no belief in God at all have a statistically equal likelihood of experiencing the phenomenon described by many as rising up toward heaven and looking down at the world that "was." Of course, if near death experiences are truly biochemical reactions occurring in the stressed or dying brain as recent scientific studies have reported, one wouldn't expect it to be faith related. On the other hand, if they are true glimpses into the supernatural arena of God, one might expect God to deal with persons of varying faiths differently depending upon where they were in their walk with Him. Perhaps even more basic is the fact that the Bible, the very Word of God, teaches that death is like a sleep in the sense that one lies in the depths of the earth, unconscious until resurrection morning. (Click here to read about what happens after death) It's getting hot down here! July 3, 2006 Our world has been the hottest during the past hundred years that it has been in centuries, and perhaps millennia, according to a report submitted to the U.S. Congress by the National Academy of Science. The evidence for this report came from bore-holes, study of receding glaciers, and from other evidences in nature. While the average temperature increase is only 1 degree F, many scientists see this as a very significant trend for which to be concerned. Others view it as normal cyclic variations that they maintain have affected the planet for billions of years. Most significant is the apparent fact that the warming is due to our own activities - i.e., those things that create greenhouse gases, etc. For certain, the trend is not a healthy sign for the planet, causing some to wonder about the future habitability of our earth home. Interestingly, the Bible paints a picture of the last days on earth as a time of total destruction, just preceding the return of Jesus and completion of the plan of rescue established by God even before creation. (Click here to read more) Scientist claims earth is doomed! July 3, 2006 World-renowned astrophysicist, Steven Hawkins, claims the earth is doomed, and if the human race is to survive, it will have to do so by setting up camp on some other planet outside of our solar system. The scientist, speaking at a recent news conference in Hong Kong, used examples of such potential universal disasters as global warming, nuclear war and genetically engineered virus as the basis of his concerns. If we are determined, Hawkins says, we can have a permanent base on the moon in twenty years, one on mars in 40 years, and if we can avoid destroying ourselves for 100 years, we ought to be able to survive in space by then. Though Mr. Hawkins is undoubtedly correct about the tenuous condition of life on earth, one might wonder how he could expect the human race to survive anywhere else in the universe if they cannot do so on a world so well designed to support life as the earth. Mr. Hawkins seems to have overlooked the fact that it is not the earth that has failed, but the people living on it that have brought it to this place. Fortunately, though a great scientist, Hawkins has obviously overlooked one key truth about this world - that is, that this world was a special creation by a loving God, and human beings were made for his companionship. Though we have followed demons and gone astray, He has made provision for rescue and reclamation for any and all who will accept the gift given. And the promise is, that though it is true this earth will meet with total ruin, intelligent beings throughout the universe will have learned their lessons about sin by this example, and it will never again show its ugly face. Furthermore, for those choosing life with God, the earth will be recreated in all of its original beauty as their dwelling place and home base from which to visit other interstellar planets for all eternity. The Bible has not failed in describing the outcome of this earth, nor will it fail in the description of things still to come - and Professor Hawkins himself may one day be one of those interstellar travelers, if he will but believe.
