The Judgment

What is the Judgment?

Life isn't fair. Good people suffer illness, disability and untimely death. Bad people live to a ripe old age and die pain free.

There are all sorts of religious faiths, all claiming truth and purity. We die and we kill to defend the cause we believe in. In fact, throughout history, many of the most ruthless acts have been done in the name of God and religion.

So often we wish that we could speak with God face to face. Yet, he remains silent and unseen.

Throughout life we find ourselves flooded with questions that seem to have no answers.

Why?

Some questions are to complex for simple answers.

Judgment is the answer. Judgment will answer all Questions. It will draw a line between truth and error. It will identify right and expose the counterfeit.

The final judgment is the process that God goes through to separate good from evil. It is a process that occurs in our lives here on planet earth, though under the control of a sovereign God in the heavens. When it is complete, good, (truth and unconditional love) or evil, (error and self-centeredness) will be polarized and forever separated. We are now living witnesses to the process played out in the news events of the times.

Why the Judgment?

Judgment is necessary because God, who is love personified, wants truth to be revealed and understood by all, for upon it (truth) all life depends. Truth has been challenged. First by Lucifer (Satan) in the courts of heaven, then again when Adam and Eve were deceived and led into rebellion with him in the garden. Since then, all are blind. None can see truth in it's full beauty. All are led astray by the natural inclinations of the human heart.

But God has had a plan whereby to reveal the many facets of truth, to open blinded eyes, and to restore man back to the condition that existed before the deception. To accomplish this He has designated the six thousand years of earth history as our tutor, a time to see and understand the law of the harvest: "we reap what we sow." For six thousand years we human beings have had opportunity to witness and experience the natural consequences of our thoughts and subsequent acts. Now, at the end of history, the accumulated effects of those six thousand years of sowing are becoming evident for all to see as the harvest of sin ripens. This is judgment. When it is complete, truth and it's counterfeit will be clearly seen. Black will be seen as black, and white, as white. The shades of gray now gone. In the process, the two will be fully separated, polarized never to merge again.

As occurs in the highest courts of our lands, a careful examination of all of the evidence will clarify all questions and lead to an unfaltering verdict.

The standard of judgment:

The standard of truth is the law of God - the law of love. Upon this all judgment will rest. Written by the very finger of God, the law is recorded in the Holy Bible as Ten Commandments, ten unalterable statements describing the many facets of LOVE. God is LOVE. His universe is governed by love. Love for God, and love for one another.

Nor is love a cold and sterile thing. It was love that sent Jesus, One with God, to live and die among us. He came to fulfill the law of love, to reveal its full beauty. By grace, by his love in action, we may be saved - our sins done away, our hearts and minds transformed, the law of love written within.

One picture of the judgment in the Bible describes the separation of the sheep from the goats on the basis of deeds done or left undone. But Jesus made it crystal clear that it was not the deeds that led to the separation, but the heart from which the deeds had sprung - a change that only He could accomplish in those who believe.

The Judge:

The Bible declares that Jesus is the judge during the final judgment.

The Bible also describes the kind of being this Jesus is. It describes his characteristics through his created works. It describes them through the Ten Commandment Law of love. It reveals them through the pages of the Holy Bible by his dealings with rebellious human beings. And it describes who he is and what he is like by his life among us, 2000 years ago. But the most vivid and most awesome picture of the characteristics of Jesus has been painted by his death in our place on a wooden cross on Golgotha, just outside of the walls of Old Jerusalem.

There is one more place where the characteristics of Jesus as the Judge of final judgment are described. It is in the Biblical description of the ancient Hebrew Sanctuary service on the annual Day of Atonement, (a day symbolizing the day of final judgment on planet earth). Here we see Jesus as our High Priest performing the final acts of cleansing heaven and earth of sin and its consequences once and for all time. It is a personal ministry, touching each one of us living on earth today.
